Coast Guard Cyber on Cyber Awareness Month

October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, focusing on the importance of cybersecurity. Increased awareness empowers defenders to strengthen their cybersecurity stance. Coast Guard Cyber Command (CGCyber) has partnered with numerous other federal agencies and U.S. allies to defend our nations cyber space and create meaningful resources and messaging in order to increase our nation’s cyber awareness. These partnerships and coordinated efforts are vital to the fight against malicious cyber activity.

Coast Guard extends comment period by 30 days for the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: Cybersecurity in the Marine Transportation System

The Coast Guard is extending the comment period for the recently published Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register focused on establishing minimum cybersecurity requirements, for an additional 30 days through May 22, 2024.

CISA releases Cross-sector Cybersecurity Performance Goals

In October, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released its Cybersecurity Performance Goals (CPGs) and metrics designed to help entities in industrial sectors improve their cybersecurity posture.  The CPGs were required by President Biden via a national security memo on improving cybersecurity for critical infrastructure control systems.  These performance goals, created in coordination between government and private industry, are based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and represent a “quick start guide” for organizations of all sizes to address Information Technology (IT)/Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity.
