National Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee Seeks New Members

The Office of Merchant Mariner Credentialing is seeking applications for 11 membership positions on the National Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (NMERPAC). The vacancies include three marine educators who represent maritime training institutions other than academies (one may represent the small vessel industry), two individuals who represent shipping companies employed in ship operation management, two individuals who represent the general public, and 4 US citizens holding a valid Merchant Mariner Credential. The vacancies for credentialed mariners are:  a deck officer with an endorsement as Master of Towing Vessels and an endorsement for inland or river route of limited or unlimited tonnage and if possible, representing labor; a credentialed rating endorsed as Able Bodied Seaman; (3) two credentialed engineering officers of which one shall represent management and (1) one shall be endorsed as Chief Engineer of unlimited horsepower and (2) one shall be endorsed as either Chief Engineer of limited horsepower or Designated Duty Engineer.

NMERPAC advises the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security through the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard on matters relating to personnel in the United States Merchant Marine including the training, qualifications, certification, documentation, and fitness of mariners. Those interested in NMERPAC membership will need to submit a cover letter, resume detailing relevant experience, and brief (2-3 paragraph) biography written in third-person perspective, as detailed in the federal register notice. Applicants interested in representing the general public must also complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450). The federal register notice is available online at:
