Coast Guard extends comment period by 30 days for the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: Cybersecurity in the Marine Transportation System

April 9, 2024 | By CG-FAC

The Coast Guard is extending the comment period for the recently published Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register focused on establishing minimum cybersecurity requirements, for an additional 30 days through May 22, 2024. These proposed regulations would apply to MTSA-regulated U.S. flagged vessels, Outer Continental Shelf facilities, and U.S. facilities. This extension has been granted in response to requests for additional time for comments from the maritime industry members of the public.

The Coast Guard views public participation as essential to effective rulemaking and will consider all comments and material received during the comment period.  We invite individuals to take advantage of this extension and submit questions and comments to the Federal Register for consideration. Questions and Comments must now be received no later than May 22, 2024.

For more information, see the NPRM on the Federal Register eRulemaking Portal at www.regulations.gov under Docket Number USCG–2022–0802.
