Report of the Investigation into the Circumstances Surrounding the Capsizing of the Liftboat SEACOR POWER

The Coast Guard’s Office of Investigations and Casualty Analysis (CG-INV) recently posted a Report of Investigation (ROI) to Marine Casualty Reports (uscg.mil) regarding the capsizing of the Liftboat SEACOR POWER approximately 7 nautical miles south of Port Fourchon, LA in the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in the loss of 13 lives on April 13, 2021.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Center issued the 51st U.S. Coast Guard BWMS Type Approval Certificate to Shanghai Electric Cyeco Environmental Techology Co., Ltd. after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system meets the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.

The Coast Guard’s Office of Marine Environmental Response Policy (CG-MER) is still seeking input from the public on the Maritime Oil-Spill Response Plan Advisory Group recommendations for changes to the Coast Guard’s Vessel Response Plan (VRP) program and policies in the Federal Register (Docket No. USCG-2022-0702).
