Notice of public meeting: IMO Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment

The Department of State will conduct a public meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2023, by way of teleconference. The primary purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the 10th session of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Subcommittee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE 10) to be held at the IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom from Monday, March 4 to Friday, March 8, 2024.

U.S. Department of Transportation’s SafeMTS Program

Norway Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) Report Marine 2023/06 into the Circumstances Surrounding the Casualty and Loss of Life Onboard the Cruise Ship Viking Polaris

The Coast Guard’s Office of Investigations and Casualty Analysis (CG-INV) recently posted NSIA Report Marine 2023/06 to Marine Casualty Reports (uscg.mil) regarding a marine casualty involving the cruise ship VIKING POLARIS southeast of Cape Horn, Chile, which resulted in multiple injuries to passengers and the loss of one life on Nov. 29, 2022.

Announcement: The Office of Design and Engineering Standards (CG-ENG) approves first synthetic fluorine-free foam concentrate (PFAS-free) to pass NFPA 11, Annex F Test Method

The Office of Design and Engineering Standards (CG-ENG) has approved the first synthetic fluorine-free foam concentrate (PFAS-free) to pass the NFPA 11, Annex F Test Method. Hiller Systems has received USCG approval to use their “Hiller Haven Green” synthetic fluorine-free foam concentrate, also known as “Solberg Re-Healing 3x3% SP-100 AR-SFFF Alcohol Resistant Synthetic Fluorine Free Foam Concentrate” with their USCG Certificate of Approval (COA) 162.033/47. This COA can be viewed on CGMIX at https://cgmix.uscg.mil/Default.aspx.
