MIAMI - A Coast Guard Air Station Miami helicopter crew rescued a man stranded on a jetty, Sunday, in the vicinity of St Lucie Inlet.
The aircrew brought the man to Stuart Airport with no medical concerns.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., an Air Force Rescue Coordination Center watchstander notified
Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a personal locator beacon activation. Watchstanders
issued an urgent marine information bulletin and launched Air Station Miami.
“We are grateful this gentleman had a personal locator beacon to notify Coast Guard
watchstanders that he was in distress,” said Lt. Cmdr. James Fennessey, an Air Station Miami MH-65 helicopter pilot. “Today’s mission was truly a success to this mariner’s ability to use his safety equipment along with the high level of training and readiness our crews maintain in order to conduct rescues like this.”
Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce and Martin County Sheriff rescue crews assisted in the rescue.
