Coast Guard rescues overdue boater near Matagorda, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard assisted an overdue boater 10 miles offshore Matagorda, Texas, Monday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call at 11:45 p.m. Sunday from the wife of a boater stating her husband had not arrived at a planned destination near Ingleside, and was unable to contact him.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Station Port Aransas 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew along with a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi to commence search efforts.

The HC-144 air crew spotted the vessel near the Port O'Connor jetties and relayed its location to the helicopter and boat crews. Due to the sea state, the helicopter crew was unable to perform a hoist for the stranded boater, and he was embarked onto the 45-foot Response Boat–Medium.

The boater was transported to Port Aransas with no reported injuries.
