Coast Guard rescues 3 boaters on Klamath River near Wautec, Calif.

U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Southwest Phone: 206-815-6689

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday afternoon, after their 19-foot jetboat ran aground on the Klamath River, just north of Wautec on the Yurok Reservation.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay watchstanders received the report and request for assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office at approximately 4:22 p.m. for the stranded boaters after the deputies' boat was unable to reach them due to draft restrictions.

Sector Humboldt watchstanders then directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew.

The Dolphin aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the boaters from the boat to the helicopter and transferred them to the Sheriff's deputies nearby.

There were no injuries or medical concerns reported.

Humboldt County Sheriff's Office will work with boaters later on to retrieve their jet boat.
