Second boat capsizes near Bodega Bay, search for one continues

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Federal, state and local agencies are searching for a missing boater after receiving a report of a capsized boat near Mussel Point his morning at about 7:10 a.m.

The call from a hiker reported of a capsized boat with two men on board near Mussel Point, south of Salmon Creek. Sonoma County Sheriff Marine Unit was already in the area preparing to search for the boaters who went missing late Saturday night. We were joined by Sonoma County Fire District, the Coast Guard, Goldridge Fire District, and California State Parks. 

First responders found one man at about 7:40 AM and started life-saving efforts, but he did not survive. We will release his ID when it is available. We’re continuing to search for the other missing person.

The ocean conditions are dangerous right now, with large swells and high winds in the afternoon and evening. We advise everyone to use caution and understand the forecasted conditions.  Boating safety resources can be found on the California Division of Boating and Waterways website. 

Sonoma County Sheriff Marine Unit will conduct the investigation into this accident and Saturday night’s accident.
