HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 71-year-old man from a cruise ship offshore Galveston, Texas, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a medevac request at 5:19 p.m. from a crew member aboard the Carnival cruise ship Jubilee stating a 71-year-old male passenger reportedly presented symptoms of a heart attack aboard the vessel. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Galveston 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew and coordinated with Galveston Fire Department to assist with the medevac.

The response vessel crew arrived on scene, embarked the passenger and transported him to Station Galveston and into the care of emergency medical services personnel.
