Coast Guard Station Rio Vista to have temporary delay in response to search and rescue

U.S. Coast Guard Eleventh District

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Coast Guard Station Rio Vista will be delayed in response times for search and rescue from Suisun Bay to Sacramento River north towards Sacramento.

Coast Guard Station Rio Vista’s facilities have been temporarily closed due to necessary emergency repairs. Out of concern for the health and safety concerns of Coast Guard members at the unit, the station has temporarily assumed a degraded readiness posture. Other Coast Guard assets, including aircraft from Air Station San Francisco, and partner agencies, maintain their capabilities. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco will leverage every available asset to respond to mission demands, including search and rescue cases.

The Coast Guard assesses Station Rio Vista will maintain this posture for approximately 30 days as habitability concerns are addressed. The Coast Guard will provide updates when the station’s status changes, including when it returns to full capability.

“The public’s safety is a primary concern for the Coast Guard,” said Capt. Jordan Baldueza, commander, Coast Guard Sector San Francisco. “We appreciate the public’s support and understanding while we work to ensure the safety of our members as well.”

Mariners are requested to monitor Notices to Mariners and VHF channels 16 and 22 for additional information regarding vessel safety requirements and transit limitations.

The Coast Guard advises all mariners to wear their life jackets, remain seated in small vessels, and be aware of their vessels’ loading capacity.  More information on boating safety can be found at www.cgaux.org
