CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Coast Guard Station Charleston boat crew rescued two people, Wednesday, after their vessel allided with the Charleston jetties at the entrance to the Charleston Harbor.
The boat crew arrived on scene, removed the two occupants from the vessel and transported them to Ripley Point.
No injuries were reported.
At 9:11 p.m., Charleston County Dispatch reported to Coast Guard Sector Charleston that two people needed assistance after their 24-foot vessel allided with the Charleston jetties.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, directed the launch of a Station Charleston boat crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Savannah helicopter crew from Charleston Executive Airport to assist. A Charleston Harbor Pilot crew also responded to the scene and was able to account for both occupants of the vessel.
“We urge all boaters to maintain a safe speed and always maintain a proper lookout, especially at night,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Nicholas Bodin, coxswain during the case. “We appreciate the swift response of the Charleston Harbor Pilot crew and remind the boating public to closely monitor the weather as conditions worsen with the approaching storm.”
A safety marine information broadcast was issued for the vessel alerting the maritime public of the potential hazard to navigation.
