MIAMI — A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami rescue aircrew medevaced a 81-year-old man from a recreational vessel 15 miles east of Sebastian Inlet, Thursday.
The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the man and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services at Indian River Medical Center for further medical care.
Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a notification from a 24-foot recreational vessel at approximately 10:30 a.m., reporting one of their passengers was suffering from severe chest pain and needed help.
“Communication amongst the captain of the vessel and the Coast Guard played a vital role in the success of this rescue,” said Lt. Cmdr. James Fennessey. “Our crew did a fantastic job of quickly diverting from our routine training to getting the patient to a higher level of care needed.”
