Media Advisory: Coast Guard to present Coast Guard Medal

WHAT: Presentation of Coast Guard Medal to Petty Officer 2nd Class John Thompson, boatswain’s mate, Coast Guard Cutter Terrell Horne.

WHO: Rear Adm. Joseph Buzzella, commander, Coast Guard District Eleven, is scheduled to present the Coast Guard Medal to Thompson.

WHEN: 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024. 

WHERE: Coast Guard Base Los Angeles-Long Beach; 1000 S. Seaside Ave, San Pedro, CA 90731

 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to present the Coast Guard Medal to a local Coast Guard member at Coast Guard Base Los Angeles - Long Beach, Tuesday. 

Rear Adm. Joseph Buzzella, commander, Coast Guard District Eleven, will be presenting the award to Petty Officer 2nd Class John Thompson. The award is to highlight Thompsons' rescue of five people and assisting approximately 40 people during the Lahaina wildfires in Hawaii from Aug. 8 to Aug 9, 2023.

The Coast Guard Medal is a decoration of the United States military that is awarded to any service member who, while serving in any capacity with the United States Coast Guard, distinguishes themselves by heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.
