Coast Guard reopens U.S. Virgin Islands seaports, lifts daylight restrictions for Puerto Rico seaports

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The Coast Guard set Port Condition FOUR, Thursday afternoon, reopening maritime ports in the U.S. Virgin Islands with the exception Fredriskted port in St. Croix, which remains closed under Port Condition ZULU pending further assessments.

Daylight restrictions for the ports in Puerto Rico have been lifted, all port facilities and navigable waterways in this jurisdiction may resume normal operations.

“We appreciate all of the coordination efforts carried out between Coast Guard personnel and our port, government and industry partners in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands that allowed for the prompt opening and the resumption of maritime commerce in both jurisdictions,” said Capt. Luis Rodriguez, commander of Sector San Juan and Captain of the Port for Puerto and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “We are still actively conducting assessments to reopen the remaining port of Fresdriksted in St. Croix, which remains closed under Port Condition ZULU until further notice.”

During Port Condition FOUR, port facilities are open to all commercial vessel traffic. Cargo operations at port facilities may resume without restrictions. All mariners are advised to use caution due to the potential for floating debris and report any abnormalities to the Coast Guard.

Ports under Port Condition ZULU are closed to all vessel traffic except unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port.
