Coast Guard medevacs boater 51 miles offshore Freeport, Texas

The Coast Guard medevacs a 15-year-old boy who lost consciousness approximately 51 miles south of Freeport, Texas, August, 6, 2024. The helicopter crew arrived on scene and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 15-year-old who lost consciousness approximately 51 miles south of Freeport, Texas, Tuesday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a Mayday call at 9:55 a.m., from the master aboard the vessel stating a passenger lost consciousness.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and diverted a Coast Guard Station Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the patient, and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.
