Coast Guard, partner agencies complete search following collapse of pier in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard and partner agencies suspended the search pending further information after the partial collapse of the Graffiti Pier in Philadelphia, Wednesday.

The search was suspended after responders reported no signs of distress in the area and no reports of missing persons.

At 6:25 a.m., Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders received a report that 10 to 20 feet of the Graffiti pier had collapsed into the water. There were unconfirmed reports of people in the area at the time of the collapse.

Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast Notice to Mariners and deployed two U.S. Coast Guard Station 29-foot Response Boat - Small II crews and an Air Station Atlantic City MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew in response.

Partner agencies including the Philadelphia Fire Department and Philadelphia Police Department also deployed responders to assist.

The cause of the collapse is unknown at this time.
