Coast Guard ends search for pilot involved in plane crash off eastern Jones Island, San Juan Islands, Washington

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard has ended its search for the pilot involved in the plane crash near Jones Island. The pilot’s body was recovered by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife dive team.

The Coast Guard received notification of the crash at approximately 11:40 a.m.. After notification, Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound launched crews from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Station Bellingham and Coast Guard Cutter Henry Blake. Alongside the Coast Guard were other emergency response agencies and good Samaritans who participated in the search and rescue efforts. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Station Bellingham and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island conducted a total of 14 searches, equaling to 4.29 total search hours and 215 nautical miles searched.  

The Coast Guard would like to thank our agency partners and good Samaritans who assisted with this search.
