Coast Guard relieves Seventh District Chaplain of duties

MIAMI — The Seventh Coast Guard District commander relieved Cmdr. Cristiano S. DeSousa, Seventh District Chaplain, of his duties due to a loss of confidence in his abilities to fulfill the expectations of his position, Tuesday.

DeSousa served as the Seventh District Chaplain based in Miami, Florida since July 2023.

There is no impact to Coast Guard missions or operations. He will be reassigned by the Navy Chaplain Corps to duties outside the Coast Guard.

DeSousa’s performance resulted in a loss of confidence due to poor judgment and a breach of trust, warranting his removal from a position of authority in the District staff.
