Coast Guard, partner agencies searching for missing child near South Padre Island, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— The Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, is searching for a missing child near South Padre Island, Texas, Sunday.

Missing is a 13-year-old Latina girl last seen wearing a black bikini and black bottoms.

Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a notification at 7:15 a.m. from Cameron County dispatchers stating two children were swept away by a rip current near Beach Access 5 in South Padre Island. One of the children, a 7-year-old girl, was rescued from the water and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search for the missing child.
