Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo holds Change of Command ceremony

KEY WEST, Fla. — The Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo crew held a change of command ceremony, Friday, at Coast Guard Sector Key West in Key West.

Lt. Cmdr. Tara Pray relieved the duties and responsibilities of Lt. Cmdr. Travis Murray as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo. Capt. Jason Ingram, Sector Key West commander, presided over the event.

Murray will transfer to the Command and Staff College of the Western Hemisphere Institute of National Security Cooperation.

Cutter Isaac Mayo is one of six Sentinel-class fast response cutters assigned to Sector Key West and homeported in Key West. The cutter patrols over 55,000 square nautical miles of Sector Key West’s area of responsibility within the Florida Straits and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as regularly forward deploying to the Caribbean Sea and other areas in support of the Coast Guard’s national security, law enforcement, and lifesaving missions.

Pray reported to the cutter from the Department of State’s Oceans, Environment, and Scientific Affairs Bureau where she was the Coast Guard liaison to the Office of Marine Conservation.

The change of command ceremony marks a transfer of total responsibility and authority from one individual to another. It is a time-honored tradition, conducted before the assembled crew, as well as honored guests and dignitaries to formally demonstrate the continuity of the authority within a command.
