MEDIA ADVISORY: Coast Guard Academy Commencement 2024 Media Ground Rules

WHAT: Coast Guard Academy Commencement 2024

WHEN: Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m.

WHERE: U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 31 Mohegan Avenue New London, CT 06320

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's 143rd commencement exercises at Cadet Memorial Field on Wednesday, May 22.

The event is not open to the public; attendance is by invitation only. Ground rules for media coverage are as follows:

  • Media representatives must RSVP with:
  1. Name
  2. Media outlet they represent
  3. Role (e.g., Reporter, Camera person)
  4. Contact number

RSVPs are required for credentialing and boarding the media shuttle bus on the day of the event.

  • There will be no parking available on campus during the event. Media parking will be available at the J.C. Penny’s Upper Level Lot at the Crystal Mall, 850 Hartford Turnpike, Waterford CT. A shuttle bus will depart from the mall shortly after 7 a.m. and the last shuttle will leave the Academy at 3:30 p.m. The buses will not be running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Media will be credentialed prior to entering Cadet Memorial Field and must display their passes at all times.
  • Live shots are permitted before and during Commencement.
  • In the event of foul weather, the ceremony will be moved to Leamy Hall. Additional pooling arrangements will be required, and instructions will be provided on-site.
