CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard has suspended its search at 10:09 a.m. Tuesday for a missing 19-year-old man near Port Mansfield, Texas.
Coast Guard crews searched approximately 344 square miles for a combined 19.5 search hours.
Coast Guard Station South Padre Island received a notification at 10:45 a.m. from Raymondville Police Department personnel stating someone was swept away by the current at East Cut.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crew, the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Daniel Tarr, and MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crews from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi to search for the missing 19-year-old man.
"After 24 hours of search and rescue operations, the Coast Guard sadly announces the suspension of efforts to locate Angel Huertas in waters near Port Mansfield," said Lt. Shane Gunderson, commanding officer, Station South Padre Island. "Despite a quick response and extensive searching by numerous agencies, Mr. Huertas remains unaccounted for. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”
