NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard and a partner agency rescued two boaters that became stranded Friday near New Orleans.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received notification Friday at approximately 6:30 a.m. of two overdue boaters last reported aboard a 18-foot black flat bottom boat in the Lake Pontchartrain area.
Sector New Orleans watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and the launch of a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat-small crew to assist in the search.
The helicopter crew located the two distressed boaters and their disabled vessel and alerted the boatcrew and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office boatcrew. Both boatcrews arrived on scene.
The helicopter crew deployed a rescue swimmer to assist the two boaters and bring them to the nearby Sheriff's boat.
The Sheriff's boatcrew safely transported the boaters back to shore.
The boaters were last reported to be in stable condition.
