SAN DIEGO — U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego crewmembers rescue two adult mariners after their 38-foot pleasure craft, High Falutin, began taking on water near Shelter Island in the San Diego Bay, Thursday afternoon.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received a distress call from the mariners at approximately 4 p.m., reporting that their vessel had struck a shallow area while entering the San Diego Bay and was in danger of taking on water. Sector San Diego watchstanders contacted the harbor police to coordinate response efforts.
Upon a subsequent call from the mariners, indicating the situation had escalated with water ingress, a boatcrew from the San Diego Harbor Police and Station San Diego were dispatched and arrived on scene.
Coast Guard crewmembers deployed pumps to de-water the vessel and prepared the vessel for towing.
The vessel was safely towed to Driscoll Boat Works in Shelter Island for necessary repairs. No injuries were reported.
