NEW LONDON, Conn.  — The U.S. Coast Guard Academy is proud to announce the signing of a memorandum of agreement with New London Public Schools that will take place Monday, March 18, at 1 p.m.

For almost 150 years, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy has called New London its home and has developed a close relationship with the local community.  As part of this relationship, the Academy is entering into a memorandum of agreement with the New London Public Schools as part of a joint commitment to increase the level of academic excellence among students with the goal of providing increased educational opportunities for the New London Public School students through the Partnership in Education (PIE) program.

This Partnership in Education program brings Coast Guard personnel into classrooms, gyms, laboratories, and sports fields with students from communities served by the Coast Guard. This will include mentoring and tutoring provided by Coast Guard personnel, support of the New London High School Robotics Team, as well as Coast Guard participation in various special events throughout the school year.  The memorandum of agreement solidifies these efforts and lays the foundation for future collaboration and impact between the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and New London.

Media representatives interested in covering the event in person must RSVP via email to: cga-public-affairs@uscga.edu before 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024. For more information about the Coast Guard Academy, please visit www.uscga.edu.
