MIAMI – U.S. Coast Guard Cutter William Flores’ crew transferred 12 migrants to the Bahamas, Friday, following the interdiction of a migrant venture near Hollywood Beach, Florida.
William Flores’ crew located and intercepted the migrant vessel while patrolling in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry at approximately 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023. Local law enforcement authorities also responded to the event.
The Coast Guard and its Homeland Security Task Force - Southeast partners will continue to be a presence in the air and on the waters to detect and deter migrants from attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S. via the maritime domain.
“The Coast Guard, together with our partners, will continue to patrol the Florida Straits, Windward and Mona passages to deter and interdict unlawful maritime migration attempts,” said Lt. Nicholas Fujimoto, Coast Guard District Seven Enforcement Officer. “The year may be coming to a close, but our mission is ongoing. The Coast Guard and our partners are committed to stopping anyone who attempts an unlawful and unsafe voyage at sea.”
Once aboard a Coast Guard cutter, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical attention.
