Coast Guard establishes security zones around San Francisco for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation conference

SAN FRANCISCO – The Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies have established security zones around the San Francisco waterfront during Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference this week.

The 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference will be held in San Francisco from November 14 through November 18, 2023. To ensure the safety of participants and waterways users on the San Francisco Bay, the Coast Guard has enacted regulated areas, published in the Federal Register and advertised by local and broadcast notice to mariners. The Coast Guard and law enforcement vessels will be patrolling the regulated areas to ensure all APEC events are conducted safely.

ACTIVE SECURITY ZONES:

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO BAY

The South San Francisco Bay security zone, which is depicted on “Chart 1,” will be enforced at all times on Tuesday, November 14 through Saturday, November 18. Vessel traffic will be restricted along the shoreline from Oyster Point to Candlestick Point. This is to ensure the safety and security of APEC participants. No vessel will be permitted to enter the security zone at any time without requesting permission from the Captain of the Port San Francisco. Permission may be requested through the 24-hour Command Center at (415) 399-3432.

SAN FRANCISCO PIER 27/29

The San Francisco Pier 27/29 security zone, which is depicted on “Chart 2,” will be enforced at all times on Tuesday, November 14 through Saturday, November 18. Vessel traffic will be restricted from entering within 200 yards of Pier 27/29 in the city of San Francisco. This is to ensure the safety and security of APEC participants. No vessel will be permitted to enter the security zone at any time without requesting permission from the Captain of the Port San Francisco. Permission may be requested through the 24-hour Command Center at (415) 399-3432.

EXPLORATORIUM, PIER 15/17

The Exploratorium security zone, which is depicted on “Chart 3,” will be enforced from 6 a.m. until midnight on Wednesday, November 15. Vessel traffic will be restricted from entering within 1,000 yards of the Exploratorium at San Francisco Pier 15/17. This is to ensure the safety and security of APEC participants. No vessel will be permitted to enter the security zone at any time without requesting permission from the Captain of the Port San Francisco. Permission may be requested through the 24-hour Command Center at (415) 399-3432.

LANDS END, LEGION OF HONOR

The Legion of Honor security zone, which is depicted on “Chart 4,” will be enforced from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, November 16. Vessel traffic will be restricted from entering within 450 yards of Lands End at the Legion of Honor. This is to ensure the safety and security of APEC participants. No vessel will be permitted to enter the security zone at any time without requesting permission from the Captain of the Port San Francisco. Permission may be requested through the 24-hour Command Center at (415) 399-3432.
