Coast Guard extends timeline to finalize PEIS to conduct additional analysis in response to public comments

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard extended the timeline to finalize the Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the Base Seattle Modernization Project and issuance of a Record of Decision (ROD) to January 31, 2025.

The Coast Guard is in the process of developing a PEIS to analyze potential impacts resulting from the proposed expansion and modernization of Base Seattle.  In response to the public comments on the draft PEIS, the Coast Guard is preparing a transportation study and a socioeconomic study to better inform the Coast Guard’s evaluation of alternatives.  The Coast Guard is extending the deadline to ensure that the studies provide sufficient analysis regarding potential impacts of the proposed action and alternatives.

The draft PEIS can be read in its entirety at the following online location: https://www.dcms.uscg.mil/NEPA.

The Coast Guard will offer the public the opportunity to review the Final PEIS prior to issuance of a ROD stating the Coast Guard’s selected alternative.
