SAN DIEGO — Coast Guard Sector San Diego personnel respond to a medical emergency aboard a charter fishing vessel approximately 55 miles west of Point Loma, Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 1 p.m., Coast Guard Sector San Diego watchstanders received a distress call from the charter fishing vessel, Legend, reporting a medical emergency. A 79-year-old male passenger lost consciousness and fell, signs of a heart attack.
Coast Guard personnel determined that the passenger required a higher level of medical care as soon as possible. In response, Coast Guard Air Station San Diego launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene, successfully hoisted the patient, and transported him to Scripps La Jolla.
