NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 62-year-old man Friday from the Carnival Dream cruise ship approximately 218 miles south of Point Fourchon, Louisiana.
Coast Guard District Eight watchstanders received a report from the cruise ship of a 62-year-old man reportedly diagnosed with a bowel obstruction by the cruise ship medical staff.
Watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac and a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry for cover flight.
The Jayhawk aircrew arrived on-scene, hoisted the man and the ships nurse aboard the helicopter and transported him to University Medical Center in New Orleans and transferred him to emergency medical services personnel.
The man was last reported in stable condition.
