VIDEO AVAILABLE: Coast Guard responds to medical emergency off the San Diego coast

SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard rescued a 60-year-old male approximately 34 miles west of the Coronado Islands on Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received a distress call from the charter fishing vessel "San Diego" around 11 a.m., reporting a passenger was experiencing seizures. Coast Guard District Eleven took on the role of Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator and diverted an Air Station San Diego Jayhawk Helicopter crew.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene and executed a successful hoist operation to retrieve the patient. The patient was then transferred to awaiting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel at Air Station San Diego.

The U.S. Coast Guard remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals at sea.
