WHAT: The Coast Guard, state and local first responders are scheduled to conduct a large-scale drill.

WHO: Courtland Fire Department, Killen Fire Department, Rogersville Fire Department, Florence Fire Department, Decatur police Department, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, Colbert County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Valley Authority Police, Joe Wheeler State Park Ranger, Lauderdale County Rescue Squad and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol Division, U.S. Coast Guard units from Sector Ohio Valley, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Decatur Fire Department, Florence/Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency, Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency, Colbert County Emergency Management Agency, Morgan County Emergency Management Agency and Alabama County Emergency Management Agency.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

WHERE: Co Rd 452, Town Creek, AL 35672 at Wilson Lake Public Boat Ramp

NASHVILLE, TN — The Coast Guard, state and local first responders are scheduled to conduct a large-scale mass rescue drill on the Tennessee River at the Wheeler Dam Thursday.

The purpose of the drill is to enhance maritime incident response for both law enforcement and fire/rescue agency personnel who may respond to a maritime incident occurring along the Tennessee River regional area.  

The drills will consist of a wide range of boat tactics and emergency response procedures from various agencies.

Interviews regarding the drill will be on site, near the riverbank or on a participant boat.
