Coast Guard opens Ports of Wilmington and Morehead City, North Carolina, with restrictions

PORTSMOUTH, Va.—The captain of the port for North Carolina opened the Ports of Wilmington and Morehead City, North Carolina, on Thursday night with restrictions.

Vessels and facilities within these ports may resume normal operations during daylight hours only.

Inbound and outbound traffic through these ports is prohibited between sunset and sunrise without prior approval from the captain of the port.

Mariners are advised to navigate North Carolina waterways with caution due to increased debris associated with the effects of Tropical Strom Idalia. In addition, the storm may have caused navigational aids to be unreliable.

For guidance on specific issues, or to report any potential navigation hazards, please contact the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center at (910) 343-3880
