Coast Guard PADET Texas - Office: (281) 464-4810 / After Hours: (832) 293-1293

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard assisted agency partners in rescuing a man from the water on Lake Livingston, Texas, Monday.

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification from the San Jacinto County fire chief at about 10 p.m. Sunday that a 15-foot pleasure craft had capsized on Lake Livingston around 7 p.m., ejecting one man and two women into the water. Cape Royale Volunteer Fire Department personnel had rescued the women from the water, but a 29-year-old male was missing. He was reportedly wearing a life jacket.

Watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston. The helicopter crew arrived on scene and joined in the search with boat crews from Livingston County, Polk County and San Jacinto County.

At 1:39 a.m., the helicopter crew located the boater near Pine Island and directed Polk County Game Wardens to his position. The boat crew pulled the man from the water and brought him ashore to emergency medical services personnel, who transported him to St. Luke's Health - Memorial Hospital in Livingston, Texas. He was reported to be in stable condition.

“Whether you’re boating on a lake or on the ocean, wearing a life jacket is critically important,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Tyler Beasley, operations unit controller, Sector Houston-Galveston. “This individual’s life jacket kept him afloat and visible for nearly seven hours while first responders searched. Ultimately, the life jacket undoubtedly saved his life.”
