CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced a 37-year-old man who lost consciousness aboard a charter boat approximately 17 miles south of Port Aransas, Texas, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call at 9:06 a.m. on VHF-FM channel 16 from the captain of the Gulf Eagle stating a passenger was found unconscious. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, diverted an airborne MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi and launched a 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew Coast Guard Station Port Aransas to conduct the medevac.
The RB-M crew arrived on scene at 9:55 a.m. and embarked the patient, who regained consciousness. The helicopter crew then hoisted the man and transported him to Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreside.
He was last reported to be in stable condition.
