NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is scheduled to hold a media engagement event Wednesday to discuss boating safety for National Safe Boating Week in Metairie, Louisiana.

National Safe Boating Week is a week-long annual campaign for the Coast Guard and port partners to emphasize the importance of safe boating practices and the use of boating safety equipment. This year's National Safe Boating Week lasts from May 20-26.

A Coast Guard District Eight recreational boating safety subject-matter expert will be available for interviews to help keep the public informed of safe boating practices.

The information discussed will include general boating safety tips such as life jacket regulations, kayak identification decals, filing a float plan, rip and tidal currents, and other safety tips. The topics covered will inform the public as to what they can do to enhance their safety while enjoying their time out on the water.
