NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Honorable Elaine L. Chao visited the Academy as this year’s Hedrick Fellow. While at the Academy she interacted with cadets and provided an evening address to the Corps of Cadets.
Secretary Chao is the first Asian American woman to serve in a President’s cabinet in American history. She was confirmed to two cabinet positions as U.S. Secretary of Transportation and U.S. Secretary of Labor, and is the longest serving Cabinet member since World War II.
The Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellowship provides an opportunity for future leaders of the Coast Guard and our nation to learn from the leadership experiences of America's most notable political, military and industry leaders. Past awardees include President George H. W. Bush, President Gerald Ford, President Jimmy Carter, and Secretary of State James Baker.
