MIAMI — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 27-year-old man, Sunday, from a tanker vessel approximately 50 miles southwest of Key West.
The man reportedly was suffering from severe chest pains.
Coast Guard watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received the initial report at approximately 4:55 p.m. that a man was in need of medevac due to experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.
A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Miami was deployed to the scene and hoisted the man from the vessel. The man was then transferred to Lower Keys Medical Center where he will receive elevated care.
“This rescue was made successful thanks to the constant communication and cooperation with the captain of the vessel,” said Chief Warrant Officer Brooke Milstead, Sector Key West command duty officer. “When the situation is this urgent, we need to be thinking and acting as a single team and that’s what took place today.”
