MEDIA AVAILABILITY: US Coast Guard Atlantic Area to hold change-of-command ceremony  

Editor's note: News media interested in attending the ceremony are requested to RSVP with Coast Guard Atlantic Area External Affairs by emailing a list of member’s names to lantpao@uscg.mil by 4 p.m., Wednesday. Credentialed media are asked to bring a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance to access the base. It is recommended to arrive at the gate no later than 10:15 a.m., Thursday, to attend the event.  YORKTOWN, Va.— U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony, Thursday, at 11 a.m. on the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center base in Yorktown.  During the ceremony, Vice Adm. Nathan Moore will relieve Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday as commander at U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area. U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan will preside over the ceremony.

U.S., Japan, Korea Coast Guards sign trilateral agreement to increase maritime cooperation

ALAMEDA, Calif – U.S. Coast Guard, Japan Coast Guard and Korea Coast Guard representatives displayed continued commitment to enhance maritime expertise and promote regional cooperation by signing a trilateral letter of intent, Thursday. This agreement aligns trilateral cooperation between Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States to include capacity-building efforts to Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Pacific Island countries. The letter of intent advances a joint statement between the three nations’ leaders, which was held at Camp David in August 2023.

Coast Guard offloads more than $185 million in illegal narcotics during Fleet Week Miami

The crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk (WMEC 913) offloaded more than 13,803 pounds of cocaine and 3,736 pounds of marijuana with a combined estimated street value of approximately $185 million in Port Everglades, Friday.

Boston native assumes command of First Coast Guard District

BOSTON— On Friday, May 10, 2024, the Coast Guard held a change of command ceremony for the First Coast Guard District commander at Coast Guard Base Boston. During the ceremony, Rear Adm. Michael Platt relieved Rear Adm. John Mauger as the commander of the First Coast Guard District, as the first African-American servicemember to assume the role. Vice  Adm. Kevin Lunday, commander Coast Guard Atlantic Area, presided over the ceremony. Platt arrived from the Department of Homeland Security headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he served as Military Advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security and was responsible for providing counsel to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary regarding policies, plans, and other affairs between the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Coast Guard has reopened the comment period, Thursday, for the notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to federalize an existing anchorage ground in the Columbia River near Rice Island, Oregon. Reopening the comment period will allow additional time for the public to review and submit comments on the proposed rule.
