UPDATE 1: Unified Command monitors, responds to Pelican Island Bridge Allision

The Unified Command continues to respond to the incident that occurred on Wednesday at the Pelican Island Causeway when a break in coupling caused the barge MMLP 321, owned by Martin Marine, to allide with the Pelican Island Bridge.

Coast Guard Mid-Atlantic kicks off National Safe Boating Week

The Coast Guard is urging Mid-Atlantic boaters to be safe on the water heading into National Safe Boating Week, which begins Saturday and runs prior to Memorial Day Weekend. National Safe Boating Week is an annual observance week that kicks-off of the Safe Boating Campaign, a global awareness effort that encourages boaters to prioritize safety on the water.

US Coast Guard Atlantic Area holds change-of-command ceremony

PORTSMOUTH, Va. —  Vice Adm. Nathan Moore relieved Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday as the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area commander, Thursday, during a change-of-command ceremony held on Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown.  Adm. Linda Fagan, commandant of the Coast Guard, presided over the ceremony.
