Coast Guard sets port condition Whiskey for Hawaii County seaports due to Tropical Storm Hone

HONOLULU — The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) has set port condition Whiskey for the seaports of Hilo and Kailua-Kona in Hawaii County due to the expectation of sustained gale force winds generated by Tropical Storm Hone that may arrive within 72 hours.

Coast Guard urges preparedness, caution ahead of Tropical Storm Hone

HONOLULU — Coast Guard Sector Honolulu urges residents and mariners to take precautions, heed weather warnings and stay safe as Tropical Storm Hone is forecasted to impact the Hawaiian Islands Saturday through Monday.

Coast Guard repatriates 182 migrants to Haiti

MIAMI – The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Diligence repatriated 182 people to Haiti, Wednesday, following an interdiction south of Turks and Caicos Islands.

Coast Guard Reserve Unit U.S. Southern Command holds change of command ceremony

MIAMI — Coast Guard Reserve Unit U.S. Southern Command members held a change of command ceremony, Friday, at U.S. Southern Command’s Conference Center of the Americas in Doral.

Coast Guard coordinates removal of grounded sailing vessel from reef off Flamenco Beach

The Coast Guard announced, Tuesday, a crane barge is headed to Culebra, Puerto Rico, for Resolve Marine contractors to remove the grounded sailing vessel Obsession from the reef just off Flamenco Beach. A Resolve Marine 400-ton shear-leg barge, 164-foot in length and 54-foot wide, being towed by tugboat from Baltimore, Maryland, is expected to arrive to Puerto Rico before the end of the month. The crane barge carries an a-frame structure with the capacity to do a clean lift during vessel removal operations. Once the barge is maneuvered into position and logistical arrangements are completed, Resolve Marine teams will lift the sailing vessel and deliver it to a location and facility to be determined.

Coast Guard offloads more than $14 million in illegal narcotics interdicted by Royal Navy partners in Caribbean Sea

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier offloaded more than 1,115 pounds of cocaine with an assessed street value of approximately $14.7 million in San Juan, Thursday.

The crew of the USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140) tow a disabled 22-foot fiberglass boat with six fishermen in good condition aboard about 11 nautical miles off Satawal, Federated States of Micronesia, on Aug. 18, 2024. The vessel, which had been adrift after experiencing engine failure, was towed to Satawal Atoll by the Oliver Henry. The Joint Rescue Sub-Center (JRSC) Guam watch received a distress alert from a 406MHz Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) registered in the United States at approximately 9 a.m. local time on Aug. 17. The beacon, lent out by a Yap-based owner to outer island fishermen, was activated, signaling potential distress about 27 nautical miles north northeast of Satawal. U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescues a disabled fishing vessel crew near Satawal Atoll, FSM

SANTA RITA, Guam — On Aug. 18, 2024, the USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140) crew successfully rescued six fishermen and towed their disabled fishing vessel to Satawal Atoll in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), marking the end of a coordinated search and rescue operation showcasing strong international and local partnerships. "This operation underscores the vital importance of Personal Locator Beacons in maritime safety. By quickly alerting us to the fishermens' location; the PLB effectively took the 'search' out of 'search and rescue' by narrowing the search area significantly and allowing us to focus on the swift recovery of the vessel. This highlights the strength of our regional partnerships and the profound impact of technology in enhancing our mission effectiveness." said Cmdr. Patton Epperson, the search and rescue mission coordinator on the case, highlighting the collaborative nature of the mission.
