U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy departs Seattle for Arctic deployment

SEATTLE — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) departed Seattle Wednesday, beginning their months-long Arctic deployment The crew will support scientists conducting three distinct science missions during Healy’s 2024 Arctic deployment.

US Coast Guard Cutter Calhoun holds change-of-command ceremony

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Calhoun (WMSL 759) held a change-of-command ceremony, Tuesday, in North Charleson. Capt. Matthew Hammond relieved Capt. Timothy Sommella as commanding officer of Calhoun during the ceremony, which was presided over by Vice Adm. Nathan Moore, commander, Coast Guard Atlantic Area. Hammond previously served as chief, Mission Support Division at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

Sector San Juan receives new commander for Coast Guard forces in Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands

Coast Guard Sector San Juan received a new commander during the unit’s change of command ceremony, Thursday. The San Juan Sector commander is responsible for Coast Guard forces in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and oversees the unit’s 1.3 million square nautical mile area of responsibility in the Eastern Caribbean. Rear Adm. Douglas M. Schofield, commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District, presided over the change of command ceremony in which Capt. Luis J. Rodríguez relieved Capt. José E. Díaz as the unit’s commander. Under Capt. Díaz’s leadership, Coast Guard crews saved over 1,227 lives and assisted 7,440 others, interdicted over 5,500 undocumented migrants and 1,000 suspected smugglers, and seized approximately 25,000 kilograms in cocaine with an estimated wholesale value of more than $500 million.

Sector San Juan de la Guardia Costera recibe nuevo comandante de sus fuerzas en Puerto Rico e Islas Vírgenes de EE.UU.

El Sector San Juan de la Guardia Costera recibió un nuevo comandante durante la ceremonia de cambio de mando de la unidad, el jueves. El comandante del Sector San Juan es responsable de las fuerzas de la Guardia Costera en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes de los Estados Unidos y está a cargo de un área de responsabilidad de 1.3 millones de millas náuticas cuadradas en el Caribe Oriental. El Contralmirante Douglas M. Schofield, comandante del Séptimo Distrito de la Guardia Costera, presidió la ceremonia dónde el Capitán de Navío Luis J. Rodríguez relevó al Capitán de Navío José E. Díaz como comandante de la unidad.

Coast Guard medevacs a 26-year-old female approximately 72 miles Southwest of Morro Bay Harbor 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medically evacuates a 26-year-old female during the "World’s Toughest Row" race approximately 72 miles Southwest of Morro Bay Harbor, Wednesday afternoon. Watchstanders at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a report of a medical emergency aboard the rowboat Julie at approximately 12:50 p.m. The duty flight surgeon determined that the female required medical attention within 12 hours.

U.S. Coast Guard completes Operation Tui Moana in Pacific region.

From May 14-23, 2024, a HC-130J from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point was forward deployed out of American Samoa and the Independent State of Samoa. The HC-130J worked with the Regional Fishery Surveillance Center (RFSC), a part of the FFA in Honiara, Solomon Islands, to conduct patrols of the western portion of Tonga’s exclusive economic zones.

Coast Guard, Monterey Fire and North County Fire Protection District rescue 5 from boat fire near Moss Landing

The Coast Guard, Monterey Fire and North County Fire Protection District rescued five from a boat fire and prevented significant pollution in the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge area, Monday near Moss Landing. All five persons were evacuated from the boat by a Coast Guard 47-foot Motor Lifeboat (MLB) from Station Monterey while Monterey Fire Boat 12 provided firefighting water.

Barco Eagle de la Guardia Costera de EE.UU. visitará San Juan, Puerto Rico

El barco Eagle (WIX 327) de la Guardia Costera de EE.UU. llegará a San Juan, Puerto Rico, el viernes 14 de junio a las 10 a.m.  Eagle atracará en el Muelle 3 del Viejo San Juan, dónde visitantes podrán subir abordo y hacer recorridos gratuitos de la embarcación a partir de esa misma tarde.  "Estamos encantados de tener la oportunidad de traer a Eagle de visita a San Juan, Puerto Rico, y esperamos que la gente venga a presenciar la entrada del barco al Puerto de San Juan", dijo la Capitán de Navío Jessica Rozzi-Ochs, oficial al mando del Barco Eagle de la Guardia Costera. "Estamos orgullosos de continuar nuestra larga tradición de compartir la historia de Eagle, un patrimonio nacional de la Guardia Costera, con la gente de Puerto Rico.”

Operation Irensia: A new chapter in Pacific maritime cooperation

SANTA RITA, Guam — In a display of regional unity and maritime prowess, U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia and Base Guam hosted the inaugural Operation Irensia from June 3-9, 2024, at Apra Harbor, Guam. This landmark event, the successful inaugural Operation Irensia, was a testament to the unity and cooperation among Pacific Island nations and allied forces. It also coincided with World Oceans Week. The culmination of two years of meticulous planning and coordination, the operation brought together the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Australia in a shared commitment to preserving the security and prosperity of the Pacific region. Operation Irensia, meaning 'heritage' in Chamorro, symbolizes a shared commitment to preserving the security and prosperity of the Pacific region through enhanced interoperability and cooperative engagement. The operation featured participants from the Republic of Palau with their Guardian-class Patrol Boat (GPB) PSS President HI Remeliik II (001) and the Federated States of Micronesia with their GPB FSS Bethwel Henry (P902) and the Republic of the Marshall Islands with their Pacific-class RMIS Lomor (03), alongside the USCGC Oliver Henry (WPC 1140) and USCGC Frederick Hatch (WPC 1143), and members of Forces Micronesia and Base Guam.

Coast Guard transfers 109 migrants to Bahamas, repatriates 196 migrants to Haiti

MIAMI – U.S. Coast Guard crews returned a combined 305 migrants to the Bahamas and Haiti, Sunday and Monday, following multiple interdictions of unlawful maritime migration attempts over the last week in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry.
