Media Advisory: Day One begins July 1 at CGA

Day One marks the traditional start of Swab Summer, an intense seven-week training program designed to transform civilian students into military members ready to accept the challenges that await them in their pursuit to become Coast Guard Officers. During their first day at the Academy, the Swabs (as the new cadets are called) will cycle through uniform issue, drill practice and various administrative in-processing.

Coast Guard’s 2024 Art Collection on view at Salmagundi Club, Federal Hall National Memorial Exhibit to follow

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard Art Program (COGAP) is scheduled to show 36 works by 31 artists at the Salmagundi Club in Manhattan from July 1 through July 26, 2024. The Salmagundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue in New York. The event is free, open to the public, and can be seen Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Click the link above to view full news release.

U.S. Coast Guard coordinating international long-range search for missing commercial mariner south of Guam

SANTA RITA, Guam — The U.S. Coast Guard's Joint Rescue Sub-Center (JRSC) Guam team is urgently coordinating an ongoing multi-national search effort following a man overboard incident reported by the crew of the cargo ship Motor Vessel (M/V) Daiwan Glory roughly 607 nautical miles south of Guam, between Guam and Papua New Guinea. The crew of the M/V Daiwan Glory continues to search their reciprocal track line. As of June 25 at about 8:40 p.m. ChST (Chamorro Standard Time), the crews of the commercial vessels M/V Kota Gabung and M/V Golden Hope confirmed their participation, altering course to assist in the search. On June 26, the M/V Hupeh, also transiting the area, ran a track line search en route to their next port of call in Australia, and the LNG tanker Cesi Beihai is also assisting.

U.S. Coast Guard responds to distressed vessel near the San Diego Bay and saves 2 adults and 3 children

SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Coast Guard Station San Diego boatcrew successfully saved two adults and three children from a recreational vessel, Tuna Trax, near the entrance of the San Diego Bay early this morning. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center received notification from the Tuna Trax at approximately 10:44 a.m., the 34-foot recreational vessel operator contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego reporting that all three of its bilge pumps had failed and the vessel was taking on water.

PORTSMOUTH, Va.— Coast Guard Sector Virginia is scheduled to hold a Change of Command ceremony on Thursday at 10 a.m., at Sector Virginia. During the ceremony, Capt. Peggy M. Britton will assume command from Capt. Jennifer A. Stockwell as commander of Sector Virginia.

US Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia holds change-of-command ceremony

MANAMA, Bahrain. — U.S. Coast Guard Patrol Forces Southwest Asia (PATFORSWA) held a change-of-command ceremony, June, 18, 2024, at Naval Support Activity Bahrain. Capt. James Camp relieved Capt. John McTamney as commodore of the unit. Vice Adm. Nathan Moore, commander, Coast Guard Atlantic Area, presided over the event.

US Coast Guard Cutter Eagle to visit Bridgetown, Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle (WIX 327) will be making a port-of-call in Bridgetown from Monday, June 24 until Thursday, June 27. Free public tours will be available at the following dates and times: • Monday (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) • Tuesday (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) • Wednesday (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

US Coast Guard Cutter Alert transfers from Astoria, Oregon, arrives at new home port in Cape Canaveral, Florida

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla — U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alert (WMEC 630) and its crew arrived at their new home port of Cape Canaveral, June 10, 2024. Alert began the eastward journey in May after concluding 30 years of service while homeported in Astoria, Oregon, along the Pacific Northwest’s Columbia River. Over the course of the 30-day, 6,000 nautical mile transit, Alert crossed the equator, transited the Panama Canal, and responded to search and rescue cases. Marking a new era, Alert rendered honors to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter David Duren (FRC 1156), a fast response cutter transiting northbound to Astoria to relieve Alert’s watch in the Pacific Northwest.

John “Jay” Vann will assume the duties and responsibilities of the Fifth Coast Guard District from Rear Adm. Shannon Gilreath. Vice Admiral Nathan Moore, commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area, will be the presiding official over the ceremony.
