Coast Guard terminates voyages of two illegal charter vessels

SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard terminated the voyages of two illegal charter vessels near Newport Beach and San Pedro earlier this week. A Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach small boat crew responded to a 76-foot pleasure craft operating as an illegal charter in Newport Beach with 14 passengers aboard Monday. The crew found the following violations: Violation of 46 C.F.R. 176.100 (a) for not having a valid Certificate of Inspection. Violation of 46 C.F.R. 15.805(a)(4) for failure to have a properly licensed master on an inspected small passenger vessel. A Coast Guard Station Los Angeles-Long Beach small boat crew responded to a 35-foot pleasure craft operating in San Pedro as an illegal charter with seven passengers aboard Tuesday. The boat crew found the following violations: Violation of 46 C.F.R. 176.100 (a) for not having a valid Certificate of Inspection. Violation of 46 C.F.R. 15.805(a)(4) for failure to have a properly licensed master on an inspected small passenger vessel. Violation of 46 C.F.R. 16.201 for failure to have a random drug testing program.

Coast Guard repatriates 27 migrants to Cuba

The crew of the Sentinel-class Coast Guard Cutter Charles David Jr. (WPC 1107) repatriated 27 migrants to Cuba, Friday, following the interdiction of an irregular, unlawful migration voyage, approximately 23 miles south of the Dry Tortugas.

Coast Guard seeks public comment about Route 37 Petaluma River bridge, regarding pier protection system

ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Coast Guard is soliciting public comments on a proposal by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to replace the pier protection system at the existing Route 37 bridge across the Petaluma River at mile 1.0, near Blackpoint, at the Marin/Sonoma County line, California.

The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Tezanos repatriated 46 migrants to the Dominican Republic, Wednesday, following the interdiction of an irregular, unlawful migration voyage, approximately 34 miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

Coast Guard Cutter Valiant returns home after 49-day deployment in the Florida Straits and Windward Passage

NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. — Coast Guard Cutter Valiant (WMEC 621) and its crew returned to their homeport at Naval Station Mayport, June 28, following a 49-day migrant interdiction operations patrol in the Florida Straits and Windward Passage. Valiant’s crew deployed in support of Homeland Security Task Force - Southeast (HSTF-SE) and Operation Vigilant Sentry (OVS) while underway in the Seventh Coast Guard District’s area of operations. Throughout the patrol, the crew of Valiant conducted maritime safety and security missions to protect life at sea and enforce U.S. maritime law.

U.S. and Philippine Coast Guards conduct bilateral search and rescue exercise

SOUTH CHINA SEA — The U.S. Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard joined together to conduct a bilateral U.S.-Philippine search and rescue exercise in the South China Sea, July 16. The bilateral U.S.-Philippine search and rescue exercise included the U.S. Coast Guard Legend-class cutter USCGC Waesche (WMSL 751) and the Philippine Coast Guard Teresa Magbanua-class patrol vessel BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702). Operations included a joint sail and conducting search and rescue (SAR) training, personnel transfer evolutions, and bilateral sailing.
