Media Advisory: Coast Guard establishes joint information center for Bonnie G Response

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas – The Incident Command established an information center for the Bonnie G response.

Coast Guard Cutter Joseph Napier’s cutter boat interdicts an unlawful irregular migration voyage with 21 migrants in Mona Passage waters off Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, Oct. 9, 2023. Coast Guard repatriates 65 migrants to Dominican Republic following 2 vessel interdictions in Mona Passage

Coast Guard crews repatriated 65 migrants to the Dominican Republic between Sunday and Wednesday, following the interdiction of two overloaded vessels in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. Four Dominican men who were interdicted, Monday, are facing federal prosecution at the U.S. District Court in Puerto Rico on a range of charges including attempted illegal re-entry into the United States under 8 U.S.C. 1326, bringing in and harboring unlawfully non-U.S. citizens under 8 U.S.C 1324, and failure to heave to under 18 U.S.C. 2237.

Coast Guard urges boaters to adhere to safety zone established for Bonnie G response in St. Thomas

The Coast Guard is urging boaters, Tuesday, to adhere to the safety zone established for the Bonnie G response in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. “It is of the utmost importance for boaters and vessel traffic to adhere to the safety zone that was established by the Coast Guard, Friday, for the duration of this response,” said Lt. Cmdr. Brian Dochterman, Incident Command deputy for the Bonnie G response. “This is an active and complex working site and things could potentially become more complicated. We need commercial and recreational boaters to remain clear of this area for their safety and the safety of response crews working the site.”
