Coast Guard, local emergency response teams search for swimmer off Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Coast Guard air and surface rescue teams continue searching alongside local emergency authorities for a missing swimmer off Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico, Thursday. Missing is Brandon Smith, a U.S. citizen in his sixties, from Connecticut residing in Culebra, who reportedly was last seen struggling while in the water at Flamenco Beach.  A Kawasaki Mule All-Terrain Vehicle, reportedly being used by the swimmer was found by local authorities at the scene.

Coast Guard, CBP, Dominican Republic Navy interdict 108 migrants near Puerto Rico

U.S Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Dominican Republic Navy surface and air units interdicted three vessels carrying 108 migrants during three separate unlawful maritime migration voyages near Puerto Rico.   The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo completed the repatriation of 64 of the migrants from two of the interdictions to authorities from the Dominican Republic Navy in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, Tuesday.

U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker returns home to Seattle following Arctic deployment

SEATTLE — The crew aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20) returned to Seattle Thursday, following a 73-day Arctic deployment supporting scientific research missions, search and rescue operations, and training exercises in the region. The crew aboard Healy, a 420-foot polar icebreaker, conducted three distinct phases throughout the cutter’s 2024 Arctic Fall deployment.
