Welcome to the Coast Guard's 9th District, located in Cleveland.

The Coast Guard’s 9th District Headquarters in Cleveland is responsible for Coast Guard activities throughout the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway and parts of the surrounding states including 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of the international border with Canada. (1/2) Today, #USCG Sector Eastern Great Lakes received report from a 22’ blue bayliner w/ 5 POB IVO Bird Island Reef, who was disabled after hitting a rock. The vessel reported damage props and they were dragging anchor. STA Buffalo RBM and RBS diverted to assist.

Last night, #USCG Sector Detroit received report of a 27’ S/V w/ 2 POB, w/ PFDs, disabled and adrift IVO Au Sable Point, MI on Lake Huron. The S/V was heading into worsening sea conditions. STA Tawas launched, arrived and took the vessel in tow to Tawas State Dock. BZ! #SAR

Today, #USCG STA Sheboygan received report of a capsized kayak with 1 PIW, wearing PFD, unable to self rescue due to winds/seas. STA RBS launched, arrived on scene and rescued the 27 YOM. STA transported him and his kayak to Kiwanis Park in Sheboygan. BZ crew! #SAR https://t.co/Zmg2iNht19

(2/2) STA RB-M arrived O/S, rescued 2 PIWs. The other 6 kayakers were uncertain of making it back to shore given the weather; the RB-M took all 6 aboard. All 8 persons were taken to Cornucopia Marina and evaluated by EMS. Kayaks recovered. No medical concerns were reported.
