U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy conducts Arctic operations
Lt. j.g. Lucas Doran, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Corps. officer temporarily assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB 20), prepares to deploy a hand-held Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) probe from the Healy while operating in the Arctic, Oct. 30, 2024. Healy is the Coast Guard's only icebreaker explicitly designed to support research and provides high-latitude U.S. presence and access to areas for the scientific community challenging for most research vessels to reach.
