U.S. Coast Guard, partners continues response to vessels and aids affected by Typhoon Mawar
Cmdr. Greg Sickels visits the site of salvage efforts to refloat tug Polaris in the Port of Guam on May 7, 2023, ahead of a port users group meeting to discuss the storm response. The vessel was affected by high winds and rain from Typhoon Mawar, prompting a response to include hiring a salvor and submitting a salvage plan to the U.S. Coast Guard, diving, repairs, refloating, and dewatering all of which took several weeks to do safely and with as little impact to the environment as possible.
